On Sunday, April 23^rd, the Victoria Fastball Club (Devils) in association with SVI, hosted a Coaches Day half day clinic at Oak Bay Recreation Indoor Sports Field.

There were 35 community coaches in attendance from Associations across Vancouver Island. Coaches ranged from those working with Learn to Play, all the way up to U18 categories. The coaches were put into groups aligned with their working age group and went through a broad range of skill development stations including Throwing, Fielding, Catching, Hitting, and Pitching.

The stations were led by VFC coaches and the 2001 Devils players assisting in demonstrating technique and skills that were being overviewed. Following the on-field instruction, many of the attendees participated in an optional roundtable Q&A session hosted by the VFC coaches where the community coaches asked insightful questions about a wide range of aspects around coaching strategies, focus, development, etc.

VFC and SVI consider the event a huge success and will begin planning the same style event for next season in the coming months. A big thank you to the VFC for sharing the expertise with the broader softball community!

Please note that the Coaches Training Day scheduled for April 23 has been moved to the Oak Bay Rec Centre – Indoor Sports Field. Due to the heavy rain this Spring, the fields at Helmcken Centennial Park located in View Royal are closed. With very few options available this late in the week a decision was made to move the event indoors. The day will also be shortened from 9 am to 1 pm. Special thanks to the VFC who are busy modifying their plans for the indoor venue. We have over 40 coaches registered and the day will be an excellent opportunity for both high level instruction and networking with other coaches.

The Victoria Fastball Club will host a Coaches training day on April 23. The training will take place at Helmcken Centennial Park located in View Royal and will run from 9 am to 3 pm. Coaches should bring glove, bat, lunch/snacks and wear appropriate attire to participate.

All coaches are welcome to attend. If you would like to attend, please notify your Association President/Vice President and they will register you for the day.

There is no charge for the day.
